Recalling a prayer from his childhood, composer Liam Bates gives us a setting which is tender and reassuring but also intense and luminous. Largely homophonic in texture – a conscious decision to keep the text central – the moments of choral divisi bring an array of vivid harmonic colour and subtle rhythmic interplay. Beautiful!
