‘I see his blood upon the rose and in the stars the glory of his eyes’ – the poem itself is captivating, powerfully illustrating the presence of the divine in earthly things. Eoghan Desmond’s setting takes up this narrative starting the piece with the purity of a solo treble voice. The 7/8 time signature and rise and fall of the melodies produce a compelling effect. A 2-part Treble choir enters providing further colour and texture before the solo joins with the choir for a final verse full of intensity and grandeur.
