Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening – SAB

CMP 119 09 108

Robert Frost said that his poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening was his ‘best bid for remembrance’. Composer Ephrem Feeley gives the text very careful consideration in this evocative setting. Both the wistful nature of the words and the details of the winter scene are perfectly captured. The slow plodding of the horse through the snow, with the intermittent ringing of the harness bells, is subtly detailed in the piano part with the reflective inner dialogue of the winter wanderer communicated through quiet and heartfelt vocal lines.

Atmospheric and captivating – a wonderful piece for Winter and holiday programmes.
